Jejakin, a climate tech company that develops a carbon management platforms, has announced a US$2.7 million seed funding round.
High-profile VC firms and notable firms participated in the funding round. These include PT ITM Bhinneka Power, Indogen Capital, SMDV, and East Ventures.
This funding will be allocated to numerous major areas, including research and development (R&D), technological improvement, market growth, and enable more companies and individuals to contribute to climate mitigation action.
“We are confident the funding will drive us forward in our mission to enhance environmental conditions by accelerating climate actions with technology,” according to Jejakin Chief Executive Officer and Founder Jejakin Arfan Arlanda.
How was the idea born?
Jejakin was founded in 2018 by Arfan Arlanda, Sudono Salim (Chief Growth Officer), Andreas Djingga (Chief Operation Officer), dan Haris Iskandar (Chief of Sustainability and Climate Change).
This startup came up with the vision of empowering businesses and individuals to make a positive impact on the environment.
The co-founders believe that collective contributions from companies and individuals are crucial to overcoming climate change.
Climate change is one of the most critical challenges facing our planet and based on the Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s report identifies Indonesia as one of the countries that is most vulnerable to climate change, experiencing rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and disruptions to agricultural production.
Realizing this urgency, the Indonesian government has taken proactive steps. Indonesia has long participated in the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) and recently implemented a mandatory carbon market.
This market aims to achieve the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (ENDC) target, which is a national promise to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for certain sectors such as energy and manufacturing.
This policy creates significant opportunities for innovative solutions like Jejakin’s platform to empower businesses to meet sustainability goals.
What Jejakin Offers?
Jejakin offers solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) that help companies achieve their zero emissions targets to answer the challenge of climate change.
Jejakin’s integrated platform allows companies to calculate emissions from operational activities, making it easier to determine, implement, and report on their sustainability plans, including nature-based and carbon projects.
The company provides three main products CarbonIQ, CarbonAtlas, and CarbonSpace. CarbonIQ, a carbon accounting platform, helps businesses calculate their operational emissions footprint from all scopes (Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3), while CarbonAtlas is a monitoring platform that uses remote sensing technologies from satellites, IoT sensors, and mobile applications to verify the credibility of climate programs engaged by businesses through on-ground checks
The CarbonAtlas platform monitors more than 1 million trees that have been planted with Jejakin clients and partners throughout Indonesia, allowing users to get visibility on the positive impacts of the project that has brought to the area such as carbon sequestration, soil & air quality, and biodiversity index.
Lastly, CarbonSpace is a Jejakin integration application that connects to CarbonIQ and CarbonAtlas, enabling businesses and their stakeholders to contribute directly to climate change mitigation action.
Optimizing sustainability
Currently, Jejakin supports more than 30 clients from various sectors, such as Gojek, BCA, Telkomsel, and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison in reducing emissions and optimizing their sustainability plans.
“This strategic move is part of our aspiration to support the government’s ENDC targets and encourage the involvement of more people in efforts to create a better sustainable world”, said President Director of PT ITM Bhinneka Power, Niwat Boonyad.
According to him, with progressive technological development and a stronger commitment to sustainability, Jejakin will continue to achieve greater success and growth in the future.
Moreover, East Ventures partner Avina Sugiarto said that Jejakin serves as the right platform to accelerate climate actions in Indonesia which aligns with East Venture’s commitment to encourage responsible environmental management and have a positive impact on the earth.
“We are happy to have Jejakin join the East Ventures ecosystem. We are eager to create and nurture a sustainable future along with Arfan and the team’s extensive experience and knowledge,” added Avina.
